Vitaminen

Vitamine kan het lichaam niet zelf produceren. Omdat vitaminen echter direct of indirect betrokken zijn bij veel stofwisselingsprocessen dienen ze met de voeding ingenomen te worden. Er wordt een verschil gemaakt tussen vetoplosbare en wateroplosbare vitaminen.
Tot de vetoplosbare vitaminen behoren o.a. vitamine A, D, E en K. Vitamine B, C, H en foliumzuur worden o.a. tot de wateroplosbare vitaminen gerekend.
Vetoplosbare vitamine kunnen alleen samen met vet uit de voeding opgenomen worden. Vitamina A zit bijvoorbeeld in vlees, vis en zuivelprodukten. De wateroplosbare vitaminen kunnen nauwelijks in het lichaam opgeslagen worden. Om tekorten te voorkomen is een constante verzorging met beide soorten vitaminen van levensbelang.
